Meet 17-year-old Ellie, a girl who, if she could be anything, would be someone else. Instead of the descendant of the only witch burned in Brighton’s history, she’d be ordinary and unremarkable. She wouldn’t be a tourist attraction or the most hated person in town. The Old Guard would leave her alone, and no one would suspect her of secretly practicing magic. Not that she has any magic or believes in witchcraft. In all honesty, she wants nothing to do with the occult or the mysterious heirloom her naïve best friend gifted her. If only she could get rid of it.

About the Author

K.M. Hotzel is a fantasy, science fiction, and horror author, slowly working up the courage to share the countless stories hidden in her cubbies. Born in Austria, she traveled far and wide before moving to the U.S., where she (sort of) settled down and earned two master’s degrees, a Ph.D., and a black belt in Taekwondo (twice for good measure) - because, why not? Unsure if it is despite the varied experiences or because of them, she loves telling stories.
